Romulus Augustulus by cabepfir Romulus Augustulus by cabepfir
Woe to that land that's governed by a child.
(Richard III, II, iii, 11)

For the Historical Characters series
The last Western Roman emperor (deposed 476 AD)

This one was inked with a Sennelier Indian ink and my usual Hunt #108 nib. It's a very thick ink, so much that the nib clogs after a few strokes. I would recommend to dilute it when using with thin nibs.

Strangely enough Romulus Augustulus was the last Western Roman Emperor with the name "Romulus" for which for which Rome was (supposedly) named after, and the last Roman Emperor, "Constantine" was the ruler of the City of Constantine.

Tommen Baratheon IRL, down to the (probable) deposing.

Ahah, we really don't know... The situation was quite different, besides in reality Romulus was older than I depicted here (around 15-16).

I've also dealt with question of Romulus age,and found that we cannot be sure of it,survived sources are contradictory so range of his age at the time of his deposal is from 6 to 16 years of age.

Strange to think the peninsula wouldn't be united again for 1500 years. That's a long time.

Aww...This is lovely! Not so sure about the crown...is that accurate? But it really looks great.

Thank you! I was inspired by this pic [link] of Romulus Augustus played by Thomas Sangster in the movie The Last Legion, which is not exactly accurate. Also, Romulus was probably older (about 15-16 during his only year of reign) but I wanted to stretch the idea of a young emperor a little.

Right that's fair enough! I hope you don't mind me saying but I found the movie to be absolutely terrible! But the tiny emperor was pretty good.

Ahah, the movie was completely inaccurate but I kinda loved it, when I watched it in the theater. :D

That's what I felt too, that I do like it in a way, though it's pretty much all wrong.
I really hope you'll do some more late Roman art by the way! :aww: Both this and your Aetius are splendid!

I am practicing because I want to do a couple of comic pages about Aetius. I'm collecting references! ;)
