The Heretic by cabepfir The Heretic by cabepfir
This is for my dearest Silvia's birthday! :heart:
A scene I have wanted to draw for two years XD Thomas More witnesses the burning of an heretic, from one of the last episodes of The Tudors season 1.
Me and Silvia heart Thomas More!

I used a postcard-sized watercolour sheet that was kindly given to me by *Mordaunt Thank you dear!

Girls these days ... when I wasa younger, i wanted shoes and clothes as birthday presents, but not burning heretics ^_^;

Still a very nice image, the flames, the vague shiloutte of the heretics inside ... the burning of anne askew was more dramatic though ... but it is more easy to have compassion for a woman than a man ...

Appena ho due secondi me li guardo meglio. :)

Yes: before the passage to Anglicanism, I mean before Henry VIII's rupture with the pope, English clergy condamned Lutherans as heretics. This was approved by the Church of Rome everywhere. After the Anglican schism, they started to persecute Catholics. What a pleasing European history, isn't it? ;)

But Catholics were accused of treason rather than heresy, and at the end seemed a better excuse. Liza I, only is depicted as a mad queen who wants their enemies beheaded in "The Black Adder".
Nevertheless my favorite religion murderer is Calvine, who after the exchange of several letters with Miguel Servet (first European in describe the pulmonary circulation function) became upset and decided to denounce Servet to the imperial inquisition. And when Servet escaped and reached Geneva, Calvine rather than discuss burned him finally by himself.

European religion wars were very curious :D.

Well it's a strange mix of commercial and political interests, personal hates, and poor fanatics. Crazy were the excuses for the wars not the reasons who were evil.

Dr-Mabuse was obviously joking ;)
We are all conscious that horrible things were done everywhere in the world, and under the most immaculate reasons.

I know.
That's why, in every catastrophic movie I know, the end of the world begins in America.

(sorry, yesterday I watched a bit of "2012" and couldn't but laugh that the end of all things happened *casually* in LA)
